Money, Is It The Root Of All Evil?

19th October 2009

I always wondered about the saying "Money is the root of all evil". Many claim it came from the Bible verse Timothy 6:10. So being the curious lad I am I went over to take a look because my logical told me money in itself is simply paper. How could it be evil? The correct words are "The love of money is the root of all evil". Okay so what's this got to do with anything? Today I thought to share some words on the recent "balloon boy" incident and what's going on since then.

Personal Finance I was watching CNN live last Thursday as the homemade balloon and the story that a six-year old was trapped inside made "breaking" news. Naturally there was concern for the boy's safety and health. I was also truly concerned for the boy's well-being. The balloon landed and there was no boy! Few days later, the police are filing felony charges against the parents of the boy.

News reports now state that the entire thing was a hoax, a means for the family to make money. It was an elaborate plan used as a marketing strategy to market themselves and perhaps increase sales numbers for a reality show they were supposedly to do. A Robert Thomas is reported to have been paid as well by a New York-based website to reveal that he helped conspire in the plan to market the Heene family.

The whole thing is very bizzare to say the least. It just goes to show how cheats exist in every facet of society today. For as long as there is money, there will always be people who do the wrong things in order to try or to actually make money. From Wall Street bankers, to investment analysts to families, people are becoming less and less honest all in the name of making money. Money is not the root of all evil but it can be concluded that the love of money is the root of all evil.
