1st June 2009
When 2009 began, I'm sure lots of us drew up New Year's resolutions and perhaps those included saving more money for the year. At the beginning of every year we take the time to write up nice goals for the year that we hope to achieve, and if you're like me, then you go as far as sticking them on the fridge. So since it's mid year, have you checked your financial goals to determine if you are better or worse off than at the beginning of the year?
A lot of unexpected things have happened to a lot of families and individuals especially towards mid and end last year in terms of their financial lives. Many found themselves out of jobs having been laid off as the big corporates incurred huge losses running into billions of dollars. I was lucky to opt to leave before being possibly laid off. However, for the thousands of people out there who did not plan for loss of income, what has been happening?
If there is one lesson to be learnt it is that what happens in the economy affects us as individuals and families directly or indirectly but bottom line, it affects us. It affects our money, our taxes, our lifestyle and our financial future. These maybe hard times for us all but it is a good time to sit down and work on a budget, an investment plan, a wealth creation plan or whatever the case maybe. I'm sure by now we all know money talks. Not having it can make life very difficult. I came across a blogger who keeps track of his financials and shares them with readers. This might be of help to you so do read the post on Monthly Financial Status/Net Worth at My Money Blog.
As this week begins, I ask you to challenge yourself if you haven't already done so and take a pen and notepad and jot down your financial goals, where you stand right now and come up with a plan for where you want to ultimately end up. If you were laid off, now is also a good time to determine how to settle your consumer debt and loans and look into new avenues to earn money. A good place to start is an online business. Do a google search, get onto youtube, do some research but do something!
